The 10th Annual Lonestar Round Up is a huge car show with amazing rides driven here from all over the country that attracts visitors from all over the world. It’s a killer live music festival with some seriously talented artists, pinstripers & unique shopping that brings friends and families together for a special Texas-sized weekend.

Come out to Guero’s Taco Bar on Saturday, April 2 to see the amazing Rod and Kustom car parade that will be going up and down South Congress Avenue. It’s a great opportunity to people-watch as well as to get some of the best margaritas in town. We will have musical guests playing in our garden starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

This month we are spotlighting Lynda Summerset, our GM!

1. What is your favorite band that plays at Guero’s? Pete Simple

2. What is your favorite dish to order? Chicken Al Carbon, the chicken is marinated in Achiote, orange juice and cooked on an open flame.  I like to add our jack cheese, guacamole and put it on one of our home made corn tortillas. This is also my family’s favorite.

3. What are some of your favorite things about working at Guero’s? Some of the fun things about working at Guero’s is our Christmas party and our Labor Day picnic. The Christmas party is full of fun and merriment. Lots of food, music and laughter fill the room as we exchange gifts, dance and toast each other. This past Christmas we even had a visit from Santa and one of his elves. The children were all very excited.

Our Labor Day picnic is held at a beautiful place called Krause Springs located about 45 min west of Austin on HWY 71. The springs fill the pool with cool water on a day that can be very hot, however we have had a few wet picnics when it has rained. Everyone always has a great day whatever the weather may be. It’s a time we get to see old friends because employees that have moved on still return for the annual picnic. Yeah, it’s that much fun.

4. How long have you worked at Guero’s? I have worked at Guero’s for 25 years. Guero’s is more like a family than just a job. Some of our customers have been coming here for as long as I’ve been here. I watched customers children grow from kindergarten to college, and beyond. Some of my best friends started off as customers. Yes this is more than just a job.

5. Who is the most famous person you have ever met at Guero’s? So many famous people have been to Guero’s however I think the most famous would be President Bill Clinton in 1995. My favorite though is Lyle Lovett. He is a regular when he is in town and he is always a true southern gentleman.

Have you ever wondered what the perfect margarita should taste like? Well, look no further, because you can try one right here at Guero’s Taco Bar! Check out this article we found that explains what ingredients should go into making the most delicious margratias.

Margaritas are Americans’ favorite drink. It is sadly also true that most of the drinks that pass for margaritas on these shores are nothing of the sort. Throughout the nation, patrons are enjoying a green, sweet substance that has some tequila thrown in there. These are NOT margaritas. Considering that Texas is the place to go for all things Mexican, it is obvious that real tequila and margarita aficionados seek after Austin margaritas.

We are happy to have come across these bloggers who visited Austin during Batfest. They seem to know their stuff about margaritas, and we are happy to have impressed them with ours at Guero’s! Here’s an exerpt:

“As an aside, here’s a word about margaritas: they’re not green. They don’t look like slush puppies, and aren’t as sweet as candy. They’re not made with bar mix of any kind. If someone makes you a margarita with any of the features named above, by all means drink it, but don’t think it’s a margarita. Margaritas have three ingredients: good tequila, an orange liqueur, like cointreau or triple sec and fresh-squeezed lime juice, shaken and poured over ice in a small glass. If you absolutely must, salt the rim. That’s it, that’s all. Anything else is like buying Spam at the grocery store and serving it for Easter. Guero’s margaritas are done very right, indeed. A small glass of refreshing perfection”

They also seemed infatuated with our “BEST EVER” quesadillas.

Here, we snacked on some guacamole and what turned out to be the BEST EVER quesadilla. Soft flour tortillas with chorizo, tomato and onion with good jack cheese, accompanied by sour cream, more guacamole and jalapeno slices. We imagine that they toasted the tortillas on a flatop or in a pan to brown them a little and then steamed them until the cheese melted. As a result we didn’t get any hard and dried out tortillas, just soft and pillowy, oozing with filling.
