We came across this blog post by Andrew Dwyer explaining how he first had Tacos al Pastor at Gueros and it inspired him to try to make a pizza version! Quite the read, and he is kind enough to include the recipe! (Click here for the recipe) It looks delicious! Thanks for spreading the #tacolove Andrew! You can read his blog here!

Just came across this article about our Oak Garden! What do you think, do you have some good memories from our Oak Garden?
Austinites demand more from their city and they get it from Guero’s Oak Garden. Picture the scene: It’s Friday night and you want to relax and unwind from a hard week’s work. In most cities, you have the choice to stay at home with drinks and a bad movie or go to a local bar where you spend what seems like forever waiting to order. You then spend half the night looking for a place to sit/stand and the other half avoiding drunk people bumping into you. The purpose of socializing is to relax, most bars do the opposite.
What a better way to kick off May than with a contest? We are giving away a dinner for 20 in the Oak Garden! That’s right, you and 19 of your closest pals (or random strangers if that’s your fancy!) will get to enjoy some tacolove in the Oak Garden on us!*
How can I enter?” You might ask. Well let me tell you! Just come in and eat lunch on Monday, May 16 or Tuesday May 17 and put your information into the fishbowl we will keep up front. We will then pick the winner and notify them that Friday!
Good luck to everyone!
*It is only during regularly scheduled Oak garden hours, must be scheduled in advance & subject to availability.

To compliment this great news, we also stumbled upon a great article on the web that talks at length about our famous salsa.
Guero’s Taco Bar has long since garnered a reputation for providing some of the finest Mexican food outside of the Motherland. In fact, its reputation has grown to the degree that eating there is considered to be an Austin, Texas tradition with locals flocking to have their hunger for real Mexican food and thirst for genuine margaritas satiated. If people come for the food and beverages, their taste buds stay for the salsa.

This month we are spotlighting Lynda Summerset, our GM!
1. What is your favorite band that plays at Guero’s? Pete Simple
2. What is your favorite dish to order? Chicken Al Carbon, the chicken is marinated in Achiote, orange juice and cooked on an open flame. I like to add our jack cheese, guacamole and put it on one of our home made corn tortillas. This is also my family’s favorite.
3. What are some of your favorite things about working at Guero’s? Some of the fun things about working at Guero’s is our Christmas party and our Labor Day picnic. The Christmas party is full of fun and merriment. Lots of food, music and laughter fill the room as we exchange gifts, dance and toast each other. This past Christmas we even had a visit from Santa and one of his elves. The children were all very excited.
Our Labor Day picnic is held at a beautiful place called Krause Springs located about 45 min west of Austin on HWY 71. The springs fill the pool with cool water on a day that can be very hot, however we have had a few wet picnics when it has rained. Everyone always has a great day whatever the weather may be. It’s a time we get to see old friends because employees that have moved on still return for the annual picnic. Yeah, it’s that much fun.
4. How long have you worked at Guero’s? I have worked at Guero’s for 25 years. Guero’s is more like a family than just a job. Some of our customers have been coming here for as long as I’ve been here. I watched customers children grow from kindergarten to college, and beyond. Some of my best friends started off as customers. Yes this is more than just a job.
5. Who is the most famous person you have ever met at Guero’s? So many famous people have been to Guero’s however I think the most famous would be President Bill Clinton in 1995. My favorite though is Lyle Lovett. He is a regular when he is in town and he is always a true southern gentleman.
We love that ’Donna Cooks’ has highlighted her Guero’s brunch experience in her latest ‘Recent Adventures’ blog post. She went in for a casual lunch with friends. Donna enjoyed the Buenos Dias Plato while she was there, and of course, the delicious salsa!
