Just came across this article about our Oak Garden! What do you think, do you have some good memories from our Oak Garden?
Austinites demand more from their city and they get it from Guero’s Oak Garden. Picture the scene: It’s Friday night and you want to relax and unwind from a hard week’s work. In most cities, you have the choice to stay at home with drinks and a bad movie or go to a local bar where you spend what seems like forever waiting to order. You then spend half the night looking for a place to sit/stand and the other half avoiding drunk people bumping into you. The purpose of socializing is to relax, most bars do the opposite.

Everyone loves our Tacos al Pastor, but did you know the history behind it? Check out this cool history article highlighting yours truly!
It is believed that Lebanese immigrants are responsible for the creation of Tacos al Pastor. They brought over their shawarma method of spit-roasting lamb from their native land in the 1930s which was in turn used as an inspiration for experts in Mexican cuisine who changed the lamb used by the Lebanese to pork for their purposes. Puebla in Mexico could be seen as the birthplace of Tacos al Pastor as this is where the Lebanese brought their cooking method first.

Bobby Longoria’s “South Congress Avenue” for Community Impact Newspaper covers the humble beginnings of some of the most noteworthy spots in Austin’s trendy SoCo neighborhood.
In the late 1800s, Guero’s, 1412 S. Congress Ave., was the Central Food and Seed store, serving the Austin community until 1993. Cathy and Rob Lippincott bought the building in 1995 and expanded their East Oltorf taqueria to the new location. The restaurant serves homemade corn tortillas and speciality dishes such as the caldo de pollo and tacos al pastor.
